EA is Me (Eric Altman)

My name is Eric Altman and I have been a resident of American Canyon since 2004. I served on the City’s Planning Commission for a decade and was elected by fellow Commissioners to Chair the Commission at least 6 times.

As a Planning Commissioner, I have been involved with some of the most critical decisions facing American Canyon in recent history including the Watson Ranch Project, Broadway District Specific Plan, and the current General Plan update. I am an advocate for local hiring ordinances, renewable energy (mostly solar), and wish to see American Canyon develop as a recreation center for the North Bay.

Professionally, I am a Surety Bond Underwriter for Sompo International, a Japanese Insurance and Health Care company with offices around the globe. What are Surety Bonds? These are third-party guarantees that an obligation will be met and are heavily used in public works construction and development, as well as for licensing and in legal matters. As an underwriter, my job is to evaluate financial risk, analyze data, and review legal documents. As a 35+ year industry veteran, I teach Surety training programs to educate my peers on best practices.

For many years, Dana and I have volunteered at our boys’ schools and willingly chaperone field trips. Raising our boys has been my proudest accomplishment.

I volunteered, mostly serving as an Assistant Coach, when the boys were playing youth sports in AYSO Soccer, Little League Baseball, and Junior Warriors Basketball. We might know each other from these activities or from my vociferous and fact-based challenges to the Napa Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees prior to their foolish decision to cancel the promised second Middle School for American Canyon. We may have also met at any number of the volunteer opportunities in which I participated.

A native New Yorker, I graduated from Lehigh University and began my career in NYC before moving to California in 1992. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1995. Moving here in 2004, we put down permanent roots and have made American Canyon our home.
